In 2008 the 17th edition
Electrical Regulations came into force
 
Heights of switches, plugs etc

All light switches, socket-outlets and controls must be installed throughout a dwelling in accessible positions at a height of between 450mm and 1200mm from finished floor level.

Consumer units must be mounted at a height that is accessible, and in areas that are subject to flooding, are installed above flood water level.
bulletAll plugs and isolation switches situated inside kitchen units, must be fixed on the back wall, not fixed to the side of the unit.
bulletAll new or refurbished dwellings must be fitted with a fire detection system (smoke alarms) at least one per storey, within 7.5 meters of a habitable room,
